Album
The Road to Ruin is a 1970 album released by husband and wife John and Beverley Martyn. It was the second and last album released as a duo. Island Records persuaded John Martyn to resume his solo career as they believed that the public was more interested in John as a solo artist rather than as part of a duo. The album marked the first collaboration on record between John and bassist Danny Thompson, who featured on many of Martyn's subsequent recordings. The Road To Ruin - John Martyn, Beverley Martyn. Second and last album with wife Beverley ne Kutner, Road To Ruin is also counted as the fourth album in Martyn's solo career, even if it might overlook a tad Bev's contributions on these two albums. The couple was still living in the Woodstock area and more on TRTR than on Stormbringer, this shows and influences the sound. Album 1970 10 Songs. The Road To Ruin', John and Beverley Martyn's second studio album, released in 1970 was the follow up to the couple's excellent alternative folk-jazz styled debut album released earlier that year. Many listeners think of John Martyn, the solo artist but reality is that before that, he and his wife Beverley put together two excellent and often overlooked albums. These ultimately kick-started John Martyn's career and allowed him to be more noticed when he began his solo work. The Road To Ruin' is quite simply a brilliant album from start to finish
