Acme stylized as ACME is the sixth studio album by Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. It was released via Matador Records on October 20, 1998. A follow-up album was released the following year, featuring B-sides and remixes from Acme. It was released in two versions, Xtra-Acme USA and Acme Plus. In late 1998, a music video for the fifth track in the album, Talk About the Blues, premiered on MTV. The video, directed by Evan Bernard, features movie actors Winona Ryder, Giovanni Ribisi and John C. Clearly a band that abhors waste, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion developed the habit of periodically releasing albums of leftovers, outtakes, and remixes early in their career. Just as Crypt Style followed the group's self-titled debut, Mo' Width cleared the vaults after Extra Width, and Experimental Remixes tweaked tracks from Orange, Xtra-Acme USA brought together 19 numbers that had been worked up during the epic-scale sessions for the 1998 album Acme. The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion was an American three-piece rock band from New York City, formed in 1991. The group consisted of Judah Bauer on guitar, backing vocals, harmonica and occasional lead vocals, Russell Simins on drums and Jon Spencer on vocals, guitar and theremin. Their musical style is largely rooted in rock and roll although it draws influences from punk, blues, garage, rockabilly, soul, noise rock, rhythm and blues and hip hop.
