Album
Judee Sill is the eponymous debut album by the American singer-songwriter and musician Judee Sill. Released on September 15, 1971, it was the first album on David Geffen's Asylum label. Backing musicians include John Beck and Jim Pons from the Leaves. While the majority of the album was produced by Henry Lewy, Graham Nash handled the duties for the single Jesus Was a Cross Maker, with his production designed to aim for radio airplay. Judith Lynne Sill October 7, 1944 November 23, 1979 was an American singer and songwriter. The first artist signed to David Geffen's Asylum label, she released two albums on Asylum and partially completed a third album before dying of a drug overdose in 1979. Her eponymous debut album was released in late 1971 and was followed about 18 months later by Heart Food. In 1974, she recorded demos for a third album, which never was completed. The demos were released posthumously with other rarities on. Judee Sill: все альбомы, включая Songs of Rapture and Redemption: Rarities & Live , Live In London - The BBC Recordings 1972 - 1973 , Rhino Hi-Five: Judee Sill и другие. Judee Sill featured all original compositions, many of which relied on Sill's own brand of cosmological Christian imagery to make their point. By turns spare and lavishly orchestrated, there is still a cohesive feel to all of the album her lyrics are exceptionally poetic to the point of being almost flowery and her voice is smooth enough to bear heavy overdubbing with itself, giving every song a shimmery feel. The essence of the music is folk, the execution pop: the songs feel like a comfort blanket, a statement of hope from a troubled soul. Judee Sill. WMG BMI - Broadcast Music Inc. Judee Sill was a California girl. Like Wilson, she had a troubled family the tragic death of her father while she was still a child, and the death of her brother soon afterward left her permanently scarred- and her mother's alcoholism left Sill practically rootless. Rootless, that is, except for an almost feverish mystic-religious bent, inspiring the likewise artistically minded Sill to write several songs directly related to Christ-like figures or otherwise heavenly phenomena. After surviving a heroin addiction and a brief stint as a bank robber, Sill turned her rather intense passions.
