Recording sessions took place between 2005 and 2007 at several studios in New York and Los Angeles. It was primarily produced by West himself, with contributions from various other producers. The album also features guest appearances from recording artists such as Dwele, T-Pain, Lil Wayne, DJ Premier, and Chris Martin of Coldplay. Graduation is the third studio album by American rapper Kanye West. It was released on September 11, 2007, by Def Jam Records and Roc-A-Fella Records. The cover art was done by Takashi Murakami who also designed the cover for Kanye's collaborative album with Kid Cudi, Kids See Ghosts. Champion contains elements of Kid Charlemagne performed by Steely Dan. Album 2007 13 Songs. Kanye West. Graduation's pre-leak talk wasn't as substantive as it was with Kanye West's first two albums. As with just about any other artist's third album, it had to be expected. The College Dropout was one of the most anticipated debuts of the early 2000s, while Late Registration had people wondering why Kanye would feel the need to work so extensively with multi-instrumentalist rock producer Jon Brion the J Dilla of the chamberlin and whether or not Kanye's hubristic tendencies would get the better of it. When Kanye West's Graduation-which turns 10 today-happened to come up in a recent staff conversation, I knew we had the makings of a piece. Is Graduation overrated or another Kanye classic An album that spoke to your soul or 'Ye's emptiest effort It had all the makings of a great hip-hop debate, so I instigated, set up the fight post and had them go at it. It's on like Donkey Kong, let's do this. Lucas: Graduation doesn't inspire me. Kanye is the best artist of our generation. Maybe even one of the best artists ever. Graduation is the third studio album from Chicago rapper Kanye West. The album was inspired by stadium tours, indie rock and house-music and was a huge departure from the sound Ye had used on his first two studio albums The College Dropout and Late Registration which featured samples and inspirations from soul and orchestral music. This album, on the other hand, included a much more electronic sound, featuring the use of layering synthesizers. The album famously faced off against 50 Cents Curtis in a sales war which Kanye won with 957,000 copies sold in the first week. Some critics argue this is the day gangsta rap was finally defeated. With Graduation, Kanye West pushed hip-hop to its limits, ushering in an eclectic era that would embrace everything from rock to Chicago house. Its release coincided with 50 Cents third album, Curtis steeped in the traditions of gangsta rap, the latter stood in stark contrast to Kanyes futuristic hybrid. A competition between the pair ensued, spurred on by 50 Cents assertion that he would easily outsell his rival. Graduation can be bought here. While Graduation is far from the electro-house record some fans predicted when the Daft Punk-sampling Stronger first leaked, Kanye's interest in French house and rave extend beyond that one track. The stunning I Wonder combines a gentlemanly, piano-led sample courtesy of 70s folkjazz artist Labi Siffre with a frizzy synth lead and alien-sounding keys, only to drown it all out with a massive swoop of strings the weirdly dystopian club track Drunk and Hot Girls lurches along at a snail's pace, mixing Can's Sing Swan Song with.
