It's insane that this album isn't talked about more. Super stoked to finally get it on vinyl Favorite track: Wayfarer. Choirs of the Eye is the debut studio album by Kayo Dot, released on Tzadik Records in 2003. It was released shortly after the breakup of maudlin of the Well, with the band consisting of several members from the former band as well as guest performers who are friends of band members. The album is titled after a lyric from the maudlin of the Well song Blight of River-Systems, on My Fruit Seed Combustible. SputnikMusic voted it as one of the best metal albums of the 2000s. The group. Genre: Avant-Garde Metal. This album is a masterwork in production, in performance, and in the long discography of Toby Driver it is an absolutely remarkable record. Transferring the sounds of maudlin of the Well to their own gothic and orchestral flavor, Kayo Dot makes a record that is enrapturingly beautiful, powerful, raw, clean, and innovative all at the same time. I cannot recommend this enough. Listen free to Kayo Dot Choirs of the Eye Marathon, A Pitcher of Summer and more. 5 tracks 55:57. Buy the album for . Songs start at cheapestTrackPrice. Choirs of the Eye. Kayo Dot. Rock 2003. Not calling Kayo Dot a metal band is difficult, because there aren't many other genres that leave you with the punched-in-the-gut feeling you get when listening to the group's debut. Calling them metal and pointing out they're on John Zorn's Tzadik label makes things worse, because Kayo Dot is not a frenzied Naked City or Boredoms-styled band either. Plus there's the classical side, woodwinds and all, rubbing up against a mighty guitar's echoing bar chord. When they let loose they're like Sleep or Isis, and when they calm down they're like Rachel's. The name has become synonymous with some of the most creative, genre-bending music of this young new millennium. Like a phoenix soaring out of the ashes that was progressive metal outfit maudlin of the Well, Kayo Dot released their first album, Choirs of the Eye, in 2003. Choirs of the Eye is a musical experience. It is exceptionally performed and composed without succumbing to an overly technical approach to the music. It still breathes, it isnt overstuffed with ideas, the audience is given time to soak in the crescendoes, the climaxes the stretches of ambiance. Band Name Kayo Dot. Album Name Choirs of the Eye.
