Adam this collaboration between the UK's Kidkanevil & Japan's Daisuke Tanabe is syncopated, glitchy and spacious music that falls somewhere between reflective & experimental. whilst there is a clear pulse and momentum, the beats are fractured & sporadic with riffs shifting through textures & tones rather than section changes. an effective sense of narration wrapped in wonder is superbly aligned with clicks & beeps flickering over. MaxRobin - November 24, 2012. The first results of the KIDSUKE collaboration between UK beatsmith Kidkanevil and Japanese producer Daisuke Tanabe brings the usual quirky feeling but is very cohesive and a bit less all over the place than their usual solo productions. The quirky mix of instrumental hip-hop and glitchy electronics that other Project:mooncircle artists are fond of is augmented by the sampling of some toy pianos and musical boxes. Making melody out of those sounds makes some really blissful and so. Released 2012. Tempos are rarely urgent on Kidsuke, but moments of calm are usually fleeting, thanks to the layers and motifs added to each track. Something like Nanotrees Out in the Woods introduces itself almost shyly, adding patters of rhythm and intricate glitches like a very miniature, very unorthodox symphony. Chords get densely processed into a kind of wheels-on-gravel crunch Frogs in a Well, Super Deformed, perhaps influenced by Autechres Confield album although Roberts and Tanabe are nowhere near as oppressive as that duo. Promo for 'SG Step' taken from Kidkanevil & Daisuke Tanabe's 'Kidsuke' project. A psychedelic collage of bouncy balls, chopsticks, robots & some of the toys. Kidsuke 2012.
