Konk rocked the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the 80's, playing with greats such as ESG, Liquid Liquid, Bad Brains, Bush Tetras, Sonic Youth and many is the second album by British indie rock band The Kooks, released on 14 April 2008 on Virgin Records. Produced by Tony Hoffer, the album is named after the London studio where it was recorded, which is the property of Ray Davies. This was the last album to feature original bassist Max Rafferty. As early as October 2006, nine months after the release of their platinum debut album Inside InInside Out, lead singer Luke Pritchard was already claiming that The Kooks' second album would be fucking. Konk was a large LatinDiscoFunk band who was popular on the Downtown scene in NYC in the early to mid 1980's. The band played regularly at the Mudd Club, Danceteria as well as performing at the Paradise Garage and the Loft. They released records on 99, Rough Trade, Sleeping Bag, Les Disques du Crepuscule, Celluloid and on their own Dog Brothers label. The band was started by Dana Vlcek and Shannon Dawson, who had been a charter member of Jean Michel Basquiat's band Gray. It's member's included G Love Jay Geordie Gillespie, Angel Quinones, Jonny Sender, Scot read more. KONK's musical influences ranged from Afrobeat, jazz, and funk to hip hop. Given these influence KONK's style is noted as being highly percussive, and containing simple, yet strong, backing bass lines. As part of New Yorks post-punk dance scene they regularly played alongside groups such as Liquid Liquid, Bush Tetras, ESG, The Peech Boys and The Lounge Lizards.
