The band made a return to the stage in 1990, after a nine-year hiatus from touring. Most of the songs featured on their set list from this point to the. The Mix is a remix album released by Kraftwerk in 1991. At the time the band was switching their private recording studio Kling Klang from analog to digital recording technology and they decided to re-record and re-arrange older songs to release them as a compilation. No new material was recorded for the album. Its unfair to call The Mix a greatest hits album, since some of their most famous songs such as The Model and Tour de France were not included. More so, it was Kraftwerks non-traditional way of releasing a compilation while simultaneously reimagining their older material. This 1991 Kraftwerk collection of often drastically remixed greatest hits offers a good, if slightly skewed, overview of the Dusseldorf legends' career. Inspired by the band's continuing influence on modern pop, dance, and techno, founders Florian Schneider and Ralf Hutter tweak Kraftwerk's sonic foundations with the intention of making their music more club-friendly.
