Wretch is the first full-length album by American rock band Kyuss, released in September 1991. The tracks Black Widow and Deadly Kiss are taken from the band's debut EP, Sons of Kyuss 1990, recorded with original bassist Chris Cockrell, while the rest of the album was recorded with his replacement Nick Oliveri. The Sons of Kyuss songs Love Has Passed Me By, Katzenjammer, and Isolation Desolation were re-recorded for Wretch, the latter's title shortened to Isolation. Wretch - Kyuss. Funny fact: Kyuss themselves have stated on many occasions that they do not consider Wretch their first album and were disenchanted with the poor sound quality and were determined to record a more accurate studio album to reflect the band. Instead, they consider Blues for the Red Sun their proper debut. Whether Wretch was ever really intended to be an album, it's still considered their first official release. Recording information: Recorded and mixed at Headway Studios and Master Control. Hindsight is always 2020, but Kyuss' promising debut album, 1991's Wretch, was completely ignored by media and public. This is quite understandable, as a paltry production job fails to capture the band's earth-shaking guitar rumble, and only repeated listens allow full appreciation of the band's developing songwriting skills. Buried out in the deserts of California, the band that helped revolutionize stoner metal often goes unheard of. Im impressed if I meet somebody whos even heard of Kyuss. Thanks to the success of guitarist Josh Hommes second band, Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss has gotten some much-deserved retroactive attention, but they still remain in the background of music.
