Across the album, Lapalux manipulates live instruments such as strings, and saxophones, as well as vocal features from GABI, Louisahhh, JFDR, and Talvi. Meanwhile, his array of synths and beats contribute to his typical hardedged, jazzy electro music, some more ambient moments, and even some house influences. Ruinism Q&A. Ruinism is a made-up term I use to describe the way in which blended sound palettes and inspirations interact with one another to form this album. I would record synths and drum hits and re-sample, re-pitch, twist and blend the sound until it was ruined and then salvage it again in an attempt to make something coherent. See 's second album, Lustmore, was inspired by the semi-conscious state between wakefulness and sleep, but on follow-up Ruinism, he ventures into the territory separating life from death. While this might seem like a logical thematic transition, it results in a vastly different sound for the British artist. He also moves away from many of the overt R&B and hip-hop influences of his prior releases, verging on contemporary classical on some pieces. The album's title stems from his creative process - Lapalux records instruments and drastically alters them until they're vastly different than their original form, then he builds songs out of the deconstructed sounds. From there, the album features beats more prominently. But even then, Ruinism lingers in a state somewhere between classical and a kind of post-electro mindset characterized by non-functional beat-making, as if the stuttering pulse of the songs were emanating from broken pieces of machinery. Though far less accessible than his previous material, Ruinism isnt the clinical listen it could have turned into. Its performers are never spotlit and yet its textu. Background information. Birth name. In 2008, Lapalux released the Forest EP. His 2011 EP, Many Faces Out of Focus, was released on Pictures Music. In 2012, he released two EPs, When You're Gone and Some Other Time, on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label. His debut album, Nostalchic, was released on Brainfeeder in 2013. To promote the album, he collaborated with rapper Busdriver for the track, Forlorn. In June 2017, Howard released his third album, Ruinism. On November 8th 2019 he released his fourth album Amnioverse
