Led Zeppelin is the debut album by English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was released on 12 January 1969 in the United States and on 31 March in the United Kingdom by Atlantic Records. The album was recorded in September and October 1968 at Olympic Studios in London, shortly after the band's formation. It contains a mix of original material worked out in the first rehearsals, and remakes and rearrangements of contemporary blues and folk songs. Led Zeppelin. Photo by GAB ArchiveRedferns. Both Page and Plant were fascinated with various European as well as Middle-Eastern mythologies, influences of which could be heard in some of their greatest hits like Immigrant Song and Kashmir. However, as the band delved more and more into the subject, their focus shifted from folklore to the oeuvre of the man who single-handedly fathered the literary genre of High Fantasy. The 1971 album, usually referred to as Led Zeppelin IV, features yet another song inspired by Lord of the Rings, alluding to the epic Battle of Pelennor Fields that takes place in the final book of the saga. Led Zeppelin are inarguably one of the greatest live bands of all time, but unlike almost all of their peers, they never put any energy into putting together a great live album. The only live release during their original run is The Song Remains the Same, a soundtrack to their 1976 movie that mixes fantasy sequences with footage from their 1973 run at Madison Square Garden. Led Zeppelin's second album was recorded during the precious little downtime they had on their endless 1969 world tour. It took them months to record in studios all across America and Europe, yet somehow it sounds cohesive. With Led Zeppelin , the albums were always the thing. Their legacy, unlike Jimmy Page 's antecedent group the Yardbirds , was built not on singles but on longform statements of purpose. To honor them, we've ranked their nine studio albums from worst to best. Led Zeppelin's legend grew over an extended arc, as the foursome of Page, Robert Plant , John Paul Jones and John Bonham constructed a new alchemy from the rock-solid foundation of roots music. Along the way, they'd stir in heavier sounds, delicate folk, Celtic and Eastern influences, orchestral thunder and primal sensu. Led Zeppelin is the eponymous debut studio album by English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was first released on 12 January 1969 in the United States and on 31 March 1969 in the United Kingdom by Atlantic Records. Featuring integral contributions from each of the group's four members, the album was recorded in October 1968 at Olympic Studios in London, and established their fusion style of both blues and rock music. Led Zeppelin was produced by Jimmy Page and engineered by Glyn Johns, both of whom had known each other since teenagers in the suburb of Epsom. According to Page, The first album is a live album, it really is, and it's done intentionally in that way. Led Zeppelin IV. So with album number two at Number One and their first LP in second place still following, their fourth LP, recorded at Island Records new London studio at the same time as Jethro Tulls Aqualung, earns a comfortable bronze. Their fourth was also the third best-selling album ever in the US. Houses Of The Holy gave with one hand No Quarter but took with the other Dyer Maker and offered some rough gems Over The Hills And Far Away among a pile of steaming proverbial The Crunge. The Song Remains The Same is still a tune though, and bear in mind this was their fifth album in four years
