Layers is an album by pianist Les McCann recorded in 1972 and released on the Atlantic label. Aside from a three-man percussion section and electric bassist Jimmy Rowser, Layers is entirely electronic, one of the first jazz albums with such an music is truly forward-looking and ahead of its time. With the release of Layers in 1973 he graduated to another plane of electronic discovery. The album documents McCanns love affair with the ARP synthesizer, a machine with an infinite number of sonic possibilities.
