Les Siècles is a French philharmonic orchestra founded in 2003 by François-Xavier Roth, whose ambition is to put works from the 17th to today into perspective. The musicians of this orchestra play each repertoire on the appropriate historical instruments. Les Siècles perform regularly in Paris Opéra Comique, Salle Pleyel, Théâtre du Châtelet, Philharmonie de Paris, in La Côte-Saint-André Aisne department, in Aix-en-Provence, Metz, Caen, Nîmes, Royaumont and international stages, Amsterdam. François-Xavier Roth born 6 November 1971 in Paris is a French conductor. Roth is the son of the organist Daniel Roth. His brother Vincent Roth is a violist. Before turning to conducting, François was a flautist. But for the French orchestra Les Siècles when playing Debussy, it's a matter of subtler differentials imposed by specific instrument makers notably in the wind section, where Buffet-Crampon bassoons, clarinets and sarrusophones, Lorée oboes and cor anglais, and Raoux-Millereau horns lend a full, rich texture to this interpretation of La Mer. The hugely acclaimed period instruments of Les Siècles return to the Proms this year with Cédric Tiberghien as the soloist in Saint-Saens' Egyptian Concerto. This all-French programme, inspired by the East, also features the fragrant Indian gardens of Delibes's Lakmé, the eroticism of Samson and Delilah, and the adventures of Lalo's Namouna.
