Album
African Roots collects the majority of Lloyd Brevett's hits from the late '70s. Not only was he a member of the influential Skatalites, but Brevett was one of ska's major songwriters, and a number of artists - including Roland Alphonso, Lester Sterling and Tommy McCook - made his songs into hits with the assistance of producers like Duke Reid and King Tubby. Ernest Ranglin played guitar, with Oswald Brooks on trumpet. In 1979, The Skatalites again joined in the studio, this time to record an album for Chris Blackwell. The album, tentatively entitled The Big Guns, was not released at the time, due to a disagreement between McCook and Blackwell, and remains unreleased. African Roots Dub - The Skatalites.
