Lou Reed is the debut solo studio album by American musician Lou Reed, released in April 1972 by RCA Records, two years after he left the Velvet Underground. It was produced by Richard Robinson and Reed and features London session musicians as Reed's backing band, two of whom, Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe, were from the British progressive rock band Yes. Wakeman recalled that during the recording sessions, the lights had to be out so nobody could see. The album was recorded in Morgan Studios, London. Lou Reed, John Cale. Le Bataclan, Paris, 1972. Lou Reed - the massively influential rock icon who died today - was midway through recording his lackluster 1972 self-titled solo debut when he accepted an invitation to perform with former Velvet Underground bandmates John Cale and Nico at the Bataclan Club in Paris. The show came four years after Lou Reed fired John Cale from the Velvet Underground due to long-simmering musical differences and personality clashes, but by this point a fragile truce had formed. They spent two days rehearsing for the reunion show at the tiny club, and the sixteen-song set was taped for French television. That summer, David Bowie went into the studio with Reed to produce his second solo album. Lou Reed - in the midst of a metamorphosis. by gordonskene Nov 20, 2015. As a reminder that Le Bataclan in Paris, now the site of infamy and terror was, prior to last week, the site of countless memorable concerts going back decades too many to recall and way too many to count. One of the more memorable ones was an appearance in 1972 by Lou Reed, Nico and John Cale. Although it was officially released in 2004, this one isnt from that album, but rather from one of the unofficial copies of the soundboard tapes floating around in the years since that concert
