This is the inevitable side effect of time, when an album that is decades old enters the history books, but this isn't an album that should be preserved in amber, seen only as an important record. Because this is a record that is exploding with life, a record with so much energy, it doesn't sound old. Of course, part of the reason it sounds so modern is because this is the template for most modern blues, whether it comes from Chicago or elsewhere. Album 1967 12 Songs. Magic Sams debut, released on Delmark in 1967, introduced the world to Chicagos West Side sound. This isnt the beefy swagger of the citys Chess era. The elegant and stylish bluesmans reedy yelp and tremolo-laden guitar reflect a love for Motowns sweet melodicism Thats All I Need and lean, rocking swing I Feel So Good - I Wanna Boogie . Even when Magic Sam gets low, down, and dirty on J. Lenoirs Mama, Mama - Talk to Your Daughter, he sounds disarmingly sophisticated. West Side Soul Magic Sam. Maybe it really was Sams old friend and bass player Mack Thompson who suggested swapping Maghett out for Magic, or maybe label talent scout Willie Dixon had the bright idea. Ten years after All of Your Love, Magic Sam was still haunting the West Side, after a brief Army detour and subsequent desertion charges derailed his career almost as soon as it started.
