Magna Carta was formed in 1989 and is owned by Peter Morticelli and his partner Mike Varney. The label, named for the 1215 English document advancing democracy, Magna Carta, has a diverse line-up consisting of musicians from many different genres, but is best known for many of its progressive rockmetal acts. Among the artists featured on the label are OHMphrey, Alex Skolnick Trio, Dave Martone, Kris Norris, and Doug. One of Magna Carta's earliest tribute albums designed to attract listeners to their practically unknown signed prog bands was The Moon Revisited, a tribute to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album from 1973. It basically contains a who's who in the Magna Carta lineup and the help of Rob LaVaque and his Pink Floyd tribute band ironically called Dark Side of the Moon clearly a suitable name for this project. The one thing that grabs my attention immediately is that this really is not a revisitation per se, nor is it an attempt to explore the album in a creative way. Magna Carta Records. It is a fairly straightforward anthem with a stadium rock chorus, but it does mark out Cairo's musical identity. It is full of Mark Robertson's neo-prog synths and Hammond organ, balanced with Alec Fuhrman's guitars and fronted by Bret Douglas' strong and controlled tenor lead vocals.
