Having found their commercial breakthrough with their 1992 debut album Generation Terrorists, and being under the intense eye of the media after lyricist Richey Jamess razor blade incident, the Manic Street Preachers returned to the studio to produce a more purely rock record, influenced by glam metal and grunge.
