From Beyond is the debut album by Massacre released in 1991 on Earache Records. The album was re-released with a different cover original is red and the Inhuman Condition EP as bonus tracks. Corpsegrinder was originally recorded by the band, Death, which all members of Massacre have been a part of in the past. Their debut album 'From Beyond' was released in 1991 but many of the tracks were written in the 80s, hence the slightly dated sound by this point, and ignoring the garish cover for a second, is a pretty apt descriptor of the early death metal sound. Opening track 'Dawn of Eternity' has, for me, a classic intro of a howling wind and tolling bell, and it instantly captures that early 90s atmosphere trying to make everything sound evil. From Beyond Massacre album. Corpsegrinder is not a Death cover. It was written by Rick Rozz when he was in Death and then rerecorded it with Massacre. In 2005, From Beyond was ranked number 288 in Rock Hard magazine's book of The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time. Massacres From Beyond is one of the most criminally overlooked death metal albums of the 90s. Comprised of mostly re-recorded demos from Massacres earlier career, it contains some of the heaviest, most well composed death metal for its time. This is one of the best tracks on the album and showcases what is Massacre. Overly distorted guitars, demonic, Deicide-ish layered vocals provided by Kam Lee, and evil background sounds such as deep laughing and willowing keys provide an atmospheric boost that most raw death metal bands lack. The intro of Chamber of Ages also has an atmospheric sense to it, which adds depth to the ensuing onslaught
