Before THE MANY SHADES OF MATEO AND MATOS, I felt the duo were relying too much on simple loops and rhythms - but here, they finally integrate those elements with real soul and emotion. The music feels more authentic and organic. The album as a whole shows a little more personality, as well, with cute little interludes, such as Rhythms of the Universe. But the tracks like The Real Thing a remake of a Stevie Wonder song, with its counterpoint vocals, are the reason the album stands out. Mateo & Matos is a team of two deejays and house music producers John Roc Mateo and Eddie E-Z Matos from New York City, United States. John Roc Mateo and Eddie E-Z Matos were both influenced by late 1970s disco. John Mateo started by broadcasting sets over his CB radio in 1985. It was through this self-produced show that Eddie Matos first made contact with John Mateo. They became friends and shortly afterward became professional partners.
