Melvin Howard Tormé September 13, 1925 June 5, 1999, nicknamed The Velvet Fog, was an American musician, singer, composer, arranger, drummer, actor, and author. He composed the music for The Christmas Song Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire and co-wrote the lyrics with Bob Wells. Melvin Howard Tormé was born in Chicago, Illinois, to immigrant Russian Jewish parents whose surname had been Torma. The sound on this CD-R is terrific, though you'll hear a few pops from the original vinyl. They're really not too distracting the performance is just so top-notch. What's missing from the two-record set on this single CD is a three-song medley with Gerry Mulligan and another song from Mel, a sweet one called Chase Me, Charlie. I'm glad I got this album on CD, so I don't have to use the turntable, and I've grown
