Melophobia is the third studio album by American rock band Cage the Elephant. Recorded at St. Charles in Nashville, Tennessee and produced by Jay Joyce, the album was released on October 8, 2013, through RCA Records. It is also the final album that features lead guitarist Lincoln Parish. For Melophobia, Cage the Elephant attempted to distance themselves from comparisons of the sound that influenced them, shutting themselves off from as much recorded music as possible. Melophobia means fear of music. Melophobia's main interest in electro-acoustic, improv, experimental music is crafted and assembled through various analogue sources. The abstract manipulations of sound are alternately ambient and aggressive. Various names are used along along with Melophobia since early 2000s and deserted, possibly more not known. Sound project abandoned in October 2016. A series of releases, remasters of old material and collaborations followed the next couple of years. Project was brought back to life in 2019.
