Mott the Hoople is the self-titled debut studio album by the band of the same name. It was produced by Guy Stevens and released in 1969 by Island Records in the UK ILPS 9108, and in 1970 by Atlantic Records in the US SD 8258. It was re-issued by Angel Air in 2003 SJPCD157. Stevens, the group's initial mentor and guide, wanted to create an album that would suggest Bob Dylan singing with the Rolling Stones. At the earlier show, touring in the aftermath of the low-key Wildlife album, Mott are facing up to the fact that they're doomed to remain a second-division attraction, adored by the faithful but unknown to the rest of the universe. By November 1972, Mott had already chalked up two hit singles, All the Young Dudes which is here and Honaloochie Boogie which isn't, had completed their fifth album, and were working towards their sixth. Mott the Hoople are an English rock band, popular in the glam rock era of the early to mid-1970s. They are best known for the song All the Young Dudes, written for them by David Bowie and appearing on their 1972 album of the same name. Mott the Hoople were formed in 1966 as the Doc Thomas Group with Mick Ralphs on guitar, Stan Tippins on vocals, and Pete Overend Watts on bass.
