I acquired this album quite by chance, with a little sleight of hand, a good dose of musical intention, all within a grand scheme of endless wishlists. And I'm here to save you all the sorcery involved I tackled this beast head on, since I had NO descriptions, there are NO liner notes, and the cover is ambiguous at best. The band was signed to the Castle Face label after playing a gig with Austin band Thee Oh Sees. Photo: Terrorbird PR. Matt Ziolkowski and his band, Mountains and Rainbows, have an album out at last that he deems comfortably weird. Particles, the double disc released May 20 on Castle Face Records, is essentially the Detroit quintet's debut album, even though Ziolkowski started the band way back in 2006. Filled with a frenetic kind of freak-pop that can be both fun and dark, the album combines garage rock grit, surf boogie and a bit of twangy psychedelia
