Lowe and Bowie were working in wildly different genres at the time there's no similarity in the musical style of the two records. It would be a stupid way to try to steal Bowie's audience, But a fun way to have a laugh. You want an album that really DOES do this. Nick has a great sense of humour, David Bowie had just released an album called LOW. So Nick Lowe released an EP not an album called BOWI. Geddit Low by Bowie, Bowi by Lowe The Rumour did the same thing after Fleetwood Mac released Rumours. The Rumour Graham Parker's band at the time then released Max. Nicholas Drain Lowe born 24 March 1949 is an English singer-songwriter, musician and producer. A noted figure in power pop and new wave, Lowe has recorded a string of well-reviewed solo albums. Along with vocals, Lowe plays guitar, bass guitar, piano and harmonica. He is best known for the songs Cruel to Be Kind a US Top 40 single and I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass a top 10 UK hit, as well as his production work with Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, and others. Bowi was the first EP released on Stiff Records. Recorded by Nick Lowe, who had also released the first Stiff single, the title and cover were intended as a humorous response to the David Bowie album Low, which had been released earlier in the year. Lowe decided that as Bowie had made an album with his name, but without the final e, he would reciprocate by making a record with Bowie's name, also lacking the final e. Nick Lowe.
