Carl Nielsen's Concerto for Violin and orchestra, op. 33 was written for Hungarian violinist Dr. Emil Telmányi, Nielsen's son-in-law, in 1911. The concerto has three movements , including a slow prelude. The Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Opus 33, was not an easy assignment for Nielsen. He began writing it in the summer of 1911 in Bergen, Norway, where he was spending some time at the invitation of Nina Grieg. It progressed with some difficulty as Nielsen, now back in his native Denmark. Flute Concerto, FS 119: I. Allegro moderato by Toke Lund Christiansen. Album Only. 57 by Niels Thomsen. Having these concertos in one set is a huge plus, providing a tranversal from the earlier and more romantic Violin Concerto, to the later, more modernist and formidable Flute and Clarinet Concertos. Michael Schøwandt gives sensitive and imaginative support, both here and in the two companion works. Toke Lund Christiansen is hardly less successful in the Flute Concerto.
