Album
Ojos de Brujo Sorcerer Eyes in English was a nine-piece band from Barcelona who describe their style as jipjop flamenkillo hip-hop with a little flamenco. The band sold over 100,000 copies of their self-produced Barí album, and has received several awards, among these the BBC Radio 3 World Music Award for Europe in 2004 having also been nominated in 2003. While for most people outside Spain, life with Ojos de Brujo began in 2004 with baritone World Village, or later with Techari Six Degrees, 2006, the Barcelona-based, Catalan and Gypsy collective has been together since the late 1990s, and released its first album, Vengue Edel, in 1999. In all this time, the band has stayed true to its original vision: an intoxicating rainbow of flamenco, rumba, jazz, rap, reggae and funk, topped with anti-establishment, libertarian lyrics written in the main by the mesmerising. In 1999, as an official group, Ojos de Brujo issued their first album, a completely self-produced and self-recorded release, Vengue. With a lineup that consisted of Giménez Abad turntablist DJ Panko percussionists Sergio Ramos, Turull, and Maxwell Wright and guitarist Paco Lomeña, Ojos de Brujo went on to record again, all aspects of the process were done by the band 2002's Barí, which was followed by an extensive world tour. Besides increasing their fan base, the tour also introduced them to other musicians from around the world. These meetings inspired the bandmembers to continue. Released 2009. Aocaná Tracklist. Todos mortales and time off have clearly been good for the most successful experimental band in Barcelona. Now that Marina La Canillas Abad is back from maternity leave, Ojos de Brujo have taken up where they left off, with even more panache and enthusiasm. The musical formula remains the same: the starting point is flamenco, with Abad's sturdy vocals better here than on some of her live performances matched by the fiery or fluid flamenco guitars of Ramón Giménez and Paco Lomeña
