The Clock finds a nice middle ground between the Americana of Steve Earle and the Manhattan folk of Ryan Adams and it occupies that territory very, very well. Theres lots of earnest acoustic strumming, feel-good ballads and quiet closed-eyed moments of contemplation in this wholesome record which is good for the soul of country folk and those looking to escape to world. This is a countryfolk record and unsurprisingly that means there are essentially two types of songs. Upbeat and downtrodden. While the musicianship on the album is outstanding and Creane is no doubt a talented writer, essentially, there is nothing on this record that gets the blood pumping. Paul Creane & The Changing Band hail from County Wexford in South East Ireland They are purveyors of finely crafted tunes, beautifully arranged musical landscapes and on top of that put on a stunning live show featuring an 8 piece band of talented multi instrumentalists. Their debut Album read more. Their debut Album. Paul Creane & The Changing Band release their second album, The Clock , in the Wexford Arts Centre tomorrow night, 28th February. Described as a band within a band, hailing from Ireland and fronted by the Wexford born songwriter, the group is a force for Creanes vision of modern AmericanaFolk-Country with a traditional Irish influence lending to its unique brand. In 2011 the band recorded their first album, entitled Tommy Black and the Twelve Days of Lucy and spent the next year touring their native Ireland along with Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The Clock is their second album, a fine combination of Celtic traditions and a medley of Americas Country, Bluegrass and alternative genres. The twelve songs on offer are a combination of carefully crafted tracks written and recorded over the space of a year, with lyrics offering an often grim, bottom-of-the-glass view of the world in contradiction to the largely upbeat music. Creane employs a Bukowski quote to put The Clock in context There is a loneliness in this world so great that you can see it in the slow movement of the hands of a clock.
