When we were trying to think the title I kept saying if we were George Michael we'd call this album Deep, because he tends to give things a direct title. And it is deep in terms of the sound-got a lot of sub-bass-it's sort of deep in terms of. Elysium - Pet Shop Boys. Elysium is the eleventh studio album by English synthpop duo Pet Shop Boys. The album was produced during 2012 in Los Angeles by Andrew Dawson and Pet Shop Boys. They may be dashing, tasteful pop craftsmen to their fans, but Elysium's prime number finds them pre-gig and stuck with a cabbie who sees this duo as A Flock of Seagulls-styled nostalgic fluff, where haircuts and videos are discussed before anyone remembers the song was called West End Girls. Pet Shop Boys' last album, Yes, was rather lackluster. It had some good moments, but overall it seemed a bit flat. Before that, Fundamental was pretty good yet still failed to live up to the truly great albums like Very, Behaviour, or even Release. So it was with a cautious ear that I listened to their latest offering, Elysium. I am pleased to report that this album redeems all past mistakes. PSB has crafted a truly blissful offering filled with intelligent and mature electropop. The most striking aspect of Elysium that most people will notice is that the album isn't a four-on-the-fl. For Pet Shop Boys' first decade, they were impostors so studious and inspired that they were better than the real thing. Now they've settled into being elder statesmen of pop at a time when pop has little use for elder statesmen, and they're off-puttingly bitter about it
