I haven't figured out what era I ever liked of them mostly because they were always changing with the seasons, but this CD is pretty solid. I liked 7 of the 10 songs on it the ones I didn't care for were the tracks where Lydon's voice just gets out of hand and wacky, or when they incorporated a poem to song translation like in the 3rd track, it loses something that doesn't equal a great track for me. Notes: 8th PiL studio album, the last before a 17 year PiL hiatus. That What Is Not. That What Is Not Tracklist. Acid Drops Lyrics. That What Is Not Q&A. More Public Image Ltd. What the World Needs Now. This is PiL. That What Is Not is a fairly straightforward alternative rock album with some heavy-metal guitar licks added for flavor. It is, however, an aptly named record, featuring John Lydon's patented rants on such topics as drug abuse, governmental abuse of power, and religion. In 1992, Lydon was tired of PiL and he and the band released That What Is Not which is basically a metal album. Not his most creative leap by a long shot. There are four really strong songs on the album though and they are: Acid Drops Covered Emperor Good Things. These songs work because they don't follow the usual metal rules as the other tracks do. They infuse other styles of music and that is what make them stand out. If the other tracks didn't play by the metal-by-numbers rules then That What Is Not would have been a much better album. All that said and do. Playing that material seems to have affected the sound of This Is PiL, though it is no attempt at replication. It's more like a stylistic evolution - one that's easier on the average set of ears than the droning dread of the first album's Theme or the mangled dub of Metal Box's Poptones. Firth's liquid throb replaces Jah Wobble's rumbling and penetrating basslines. Following hot on the heels of the EP, their first album since 1992's That What Is Not will be titled This Is PiL and is set for release on May 28. Both records will be released through the bands own PiL Official label. Lydon recently said: 'One Drop' is a reflection of where I grew up in Finsbury Park, London. The area that shaped me, and influenced my culturally and musically, a place I will forever feel connected to. He added: But within this I am also saying it doesn't matter where you come from, we all go thro
