Brooding synthesizers on Concept Unification's opening title track give way to the impending melancholy found on Dial Tone, while progressive ebbs and flows on Petit Mal showcase PINKISH BLACK's ability to manipulate dark ambience. After the bands Yeti, The Great Tyrant, The Pointy Shoe Factory, Maxine's Radiator, and many others, Daron Beck and Jon Teague formed Pinkish Black out of the emotional pain endured as a result of the suicide of their close friend, Tommy Wayne Atkins. This band is dedicated to keeping it real and from the heart. Pinkish Black revolves around a convincing core identity of dense themes and dark imagery. At their best, these songs are thick, powerful thuds, with rubber band-like distorted bass from a keyboard growling between dynamic drums, teasing synthesizer lines, and vocals that push between operatic majesty and guttural infamy. Tastes Like Blood, for instance, opens with a piano-and-voice dirge about giving up, creating an unnecessary impasse between the perfectly belligerent Tell Her I'm Dead and the song's massive, nearly symphonic coda. Bottom of the Morning. Razed to the Ground. Texas experimental duo, Pinkish Black, have released their new album, Concept Unification, via Relapse Records. A full album stream is available below.
