Album

Legend is the eleventh studio album by the American country rock band Poco, released in 1978. After ABC Records canceled the 1977 release of Poco's planned 13th album: the live set The Last Roundup, the three remaining members of the band: Rusty Young, Paul Cotton and George Grantham, agreed to the suspension of Poco as a recording or performing outfit. By 1978 Young - a founding member of Poco from 1968 - and Cotton - with Poco since 1970 - had decided to launch as essentially a duo act, ABC Records. Young's The Last Goodbye and Legend closed out the album on a more thickly textured, higher-wattage note, representing the group's newer sound, the latter with a memorably driving beat that, with Boomerang, bookended the album. Track Listing. Album 1978 9 Songs. Pedal steel player Rusty Young struck gold with his languid country-popper Crazy Love, which was followed up on the charts with Heart of the Night, guitarist Paul Cottons Eagles-ish ode to New Orleans. The album is purposely light around the edges, perfectly melodic, and exquisitely executed. Legend is Poco resurrected. The last of the original line-up broke up after 1977's poorly received Indian Summer album. Timothy B. Schmit and George Grantham exited leaving Paul Cotton and Rusty Young to carry on. They took some time off to re-group and re-tool their sound and in 1978 Legend gave them the most commercial success they would ever receive. Adding British pop musicians Charlie Harrison bass, Kim Bullard keyboards and Steve Chapman drums gave the group the rock edge it only hinted at previously since it did cling to country rock after. Rusty Young and Paul Cotton formed a new group called the Cotton-Young Band and prepared this album as a duo. However, ABC acquired the album and then decided to continue to use the name Poco for the band. When the album became successful, Poco drummer George Grantham found himself forced out of Poco without ever having quit the group.
