Album
Separations is the third studio album by English rock band Pulp, released on 19 June 1992 by Fire Records. Recorded in 1989, it was belatedly released in 1992 by the independent record label Fire, having already been released in France in 1991 on Rosebud Records. The songs on the second half of the album range between electronic synthpop and experimental acid house styles, while the first half contains songs more typical of Pulp's late 80s music. The Pulp Group are long gone from Fire, currently negotiating a possibly major deal, and are not especially interested in you hearing a three-year-old LP that their old financiers failed to release at the time. Which is not to say don't buy it forthwith. If the generic term Lion Pop has you lost as yet, listen in. Lion Pop is all about flamboyance, unself-conscious foppery, grand gestures and absurd colour co-ordination. It is Sheffield's Pulp, falling about like an amateur dramatics society putting on Jacques Brel's existential musical adaptation of Run For Your Wife 'S. Pulp - Separations 1992. But what is especially noticeable about Separations is how Pulp is finally starting to write some fully realized songs. My Legendary Girlfriend, the song that earned the band its first Single of the Week in NME, is the leader of the pack with a brilliant, sly lyric and vocal from Jarvis Cocker, and an appropriately melodic and slightly dirty instrumental backdrop from the band. Countdown, with its insistent beat, is nearly as good, as is the loping opener, Love Is Blind. Released June 19, 1992. Separations Tracklist. Love Is Blind 1992 9 Songs.
