Rising also known as Rainbow Rising is the second studio album by the BritishAmerican rock band Rainbow, released in 1976. In issue 4 of Kerrang magazine cover-dated October 1981, Rising was voted the greatest heavy metal album of all time. In 2017, it was ranked 48th at Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time. One interesting fact is that Rising took less than a month to be recorded which is a testament to the chemistry but also to the clear vision and hierarchy within the band Ritchie Blackmore was responsible for the music and Ronnie James Dio wrote the lyrics based on the melodies. In fact, an important element of Dios lyrics that is worth mentioning is the selection of words and his clear delivery. A prime example can be found towards the end of Stargazer from the Time is standing still verse onwards. Someone unfamiliar with Rainbow or the musicians associated with it might see that the second half of the album is just two eight minute songs, and get spooked that they'd be bloated filler. Rest assured that both Stargazer and A Light in the Black are masterpieces that are well worth their run times. Not his main guitar solo although it is a great one, but at the end of the song, all of the little lead parts and flourishes he adds underneath Dio give the song a bit more epicness and weight.
