As the title suggests the book covers his childhood in Croydon during the 50s and then his pre-fame period when he travelled all over Europe busking, despite crippling insecurities which meant he would never perform solo. I particularly enjoyed the description of his time in Paris when he lived around the Rue D'ecoles - an area I know quite well. It's a wonderful insight into the hand to mouth world of the itinerant folk musician.
