Tequila Mockingbird is an album by jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis, released in 1977 on Columbia Records. The album peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. Tequila Mockingbird was produced by Bert De Couteaux and Larry Dunn. Artists such as EWF members Al McKay and Johnny Graham on guitars and bassist Verdine White featured on the album, along with the horn production of Eddie del Barrio. The LP's title track also appears on five of Ramsey Lewis' compilation albums. In both Dunn and DeCoteaux, Lewis works with producers he had never worked with prior to this. While the songs here do have trouble standing out, Tequila Mockingbird has a certain smoothness and cohesion that belies the sequencing and the different production styles. Whereas a producer like Charles Stephney made sure to match Lewis with evocative, challenging melodies, a lot of this has tracks any talented piano player could do. Album 1977 8 Songs.
