It is effectively a Mark Kozelek solo album, since no other members of the band are listed in the liner notes. Red House Painters was an alternative rock band from San Francisco, CA, United States, formed in 1989 by singersongwriter Mark Kozelek, who is currently active in the band Sun Kil Moon, with part of the original RHP line-up. The band is described, along with Low and American Music Club, as one of the linchpins of the slowcore movement in alternative rock. Before Songs for a Blue Guitar could appear, the Red House Painters' singersongwriterguitarist Mark Kozelek had to leave his old label 4AD allegedly over a Kozelek solo album 4AD rejected, split up the band, and find a new home for his music on Supreme Recordings. Fortunately for Kozelek and his audience, it's worth all the tumult. This is the solo album Kozelek wanted to make masquerading as the Red House Painters album no other Painters are listed in the liner notes.
