Nowhere is the debut album by British shoegaze band Ride, released 15 October 1990. Rolling Stone called the album a masterpiece, and online magazine Pitchfork called it one of shoegazing's enduring moments. Ride released three EPs, Ride, Play, and Fall, prior to the release of Nowhere. Nowhere was recorded live-in-the-studio with producer Marc Waterman. Waterman had a mental breakdown, which resulted in Alan Moulder mixing the recordings. From their debut album Nowhere This was originally a track from one of their ep's, but was put into the cd version along with 3 more free to Ride Nowhere Seagull, Kaleidoscope and more. 11 tracks 52:48. Nowhere by Ride is one of the seminal albums of the Shoegazing genre, even if the sound of the album is not necessarily indebted to Shoegaze. Rather, Ride's album seems to predict many genres of rock that were to be heard down the road, from Britpop to Indie. Nowhere seems to hold consensus as the second-best record of the shoegaze era, and with very good reason. All of the common words, phrases, and adjectives commonly used with the short-lived subgenre fit properly here, and they're all positive, every one of them. Whir, whoosh, haze, swirl, ad nauseum - this record holds all of these elements at their most exciting and mastered. But in the end, great pop records necessitate quality songs, which Nowhere delivers throughout. Undeniably, it's Ride's zenith - dense, tight, hypnotic. Genre: Shoegaze. Acting as something like a prerequisite to Loveless, Nowhere is an album that explores some of the deepest ideas of the shoegaze genre, and does them in outstanding ways.
