Album

Paint as a Fragrance is the first studio album by the San Diego, California rock band Rocket from the Crypt, released in 1991 by Cargo Records and Headhunter Records. It is the band's only recording featuring their original lineup, which included drummer Sean Flynn and backing vocalist Elaina Torres. Shortly after the release of Paint as a Fragrance Sean and Elaina moved away from San Diego and the group re-invented itself as a punk-inspired rock & roll band with a horn section. In addition to more immediate punk scorchers, Rocket From The Crypt also explores other musical terrain the band gears up with rockabilly-laden guitar riffs, which are then unleashed with some dissonant guitar harmonies and breakneck piano. Yes, it is different than subsequent RFTC records, but the heart and soul of everything that made RFTC so special is abundant. I agree that it may be better to start with Circa Now or Scream, Dracula. but you should give Paint as a Fragrance a chance, you won't be sorry. this album was recorded before rftc had a horn section, and its absence means this album is less distictive than the other offerings from rftc- though the infrequent use of female backup vocals and piano add some diversity. for the rocket fan this album is a must-have. although very noisy, the 10 songs are solid. the mixing is similar to the mixing
