Hospital Handshakes Rocky Votolato. Indie Rock. The Texas-born, Seattle-based singersongwriter Rocky Votolato hasn't released anything resembling a rock & roll record since 2007's Brag & Cuss, but there were good reasons for it. After enduring a deep depression and crippling self-doubt, his music at the time had to reflect where he was. That said, these experiences resulted in two of his finest albums - 2010's True Devotion and the self-issued Television of Saints from 2012. The new full length, Hospital Handshakes, is a surprisingly positive explosion of energy that examines themes of healing from trauma, overcoming depression, spiritual longing and finding true meaning in life. It also marks a turning point in Votolatos career, the end result of a tumultuous transition that began after the release of his seventh album, Television of Saints, in 2012 with the songwriter second-guessing his gift and even considering retiring from music. It's shaping up to be a visceral and tactile album the band is incredible, and Rocky's writing is spring tight right now. This is a good one. Introducing Hospital Handshakes, Votolato's eighth studio album and a brilliant creative revitalization. Following a tour with mewithoutYou, Rocky realized he hadn't written new music in over a year. But in the summer of 2014, he found the muse again, and finally hit the studio with ex-Death Cab For Cutie guitaristproducer extraordinaire Chris Walla to lay down the LP. He also teamed with his brother Cody of the Blood Brothers, who added electric guitar to the album. Votolato is currently touring the American west coast, playing living rooms from Los Angeles to Portland through April 24. From May 8 to June 21, he'll traverse Europe, playing clubs and festivals. Rocky Votolato born March 8, 1977 in Dallas, Texas, United States, is an American singer-songwriter. He was raised in Frost, Texas, roughly 50 miles south of Dallas, until the age of 13. After his parents were divorced, his mother remarried and moved the family to the Pacific Northwest in 1991, where he attended Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Washington. Alienated by his southern roots, the isolation led him to focus all of his attention on learning to play guitar and writing songs. Inspired by. Hospital Handshakes is a great album, well balanced and sonically superb The guitar interplay between Rocky and Cody holds great intrigue and creates lush, interesting sound-scapes. As per usual Rocky's honest songwriting is blended beautifully with metaphor and well crafted hooks adding to the some of the genre-breaking Rock delivered on this album
