The Sea. San Sebastian Strings Format: Audio CD. Verified Purchase. I loved Rod McKuen as a teenageryoung adult. The only album of the famous trilogy that I owned was The Earth, which I played over and over until it wore out. Unfortunately, for some strange reason The Earth was never made into a CD, so I thought I would try The Sea. The poety is fine, but there is one BIG problem. Rod McKuen is NOT even speaking the lines, not reciting his own work, like he did on The Earth album. The liner notes say a friend is speaking. I had no idea what to expect, but the artwork an the liner notes on the back cover tickled my curiosity and boy am I glad I bought both albums. Whether you put The Earth or The Sea on the turntable, it doesn't matter: in both cases you can sit back, preferably with a Cuban cigar and a great cognac and submerge yourself into some excellent vintage, downtempo goodness, here and there with the comforting sound of rolling waves and wind.
