These Rossini Overtures are all played with the typical charm and élan that were hallmarks of the Maestro's conducting. I do not own any of his Opera recordings but, in truth, Giulini was more famous for his non-operatic repertoire than his work in the pit. Additionally, he was almost considered a n Austro-Germanic conductor, as he grew up in Northern Italy town of Barretta near the Austrian border and hence his childhood exposure to Bruckner, Schubert and Mozart, even more than Verdi, Puccini of Rossini.
