South Atlantic Blues - Scott Fagan, The MAAC Island Band. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. South Atlantic Blues floats in from the same hazy plane as Astral Weeks and Tim Buckley's Goodbye and Hello, a record where the compositions often are canvases for emotions delivered through either Fagan's quivering voice or the lush strings that threaten to envelop him. Unlike those aforementioned touchstones, South Atlantic Blues does indeed have trace elements of blues as suggested by its title: it's rife with horn charts and, occasionally, the songs are trimmed so they inadvertently reveal their soul underpinnings. Best known as the maestro behind the obscure 1967 psych-folk LP South Atlantic Blues and the 1971 Broadway rock musical Soon, singersongwriter Scott Fagan is also the father of Magnetic Fields mastermind Stephin Merritt. Born in New York in 1945 to a saxophone-playing father and a dancer mother, the innately musical Fagan spent his formative years with his mother in an arts colony in the Virgin Islands. Scott Fagans debut album, South Atlantic Blues, is a genuine lost classic - a mystical, mythical and deeply soulful masterpiece. Recorded when Scott was just 21, virtually homeless and with pennies to his name, it was released in 1968 on Atco Records but remained obscure, confounded by a series of frustrating near-misses. From being mentored by Doc Pomus to being discovered by Jasper Johns, Scotts incredible story and music unfolds on South Atlantic Blues, remastered and reissued for the first time ever on CD and vinyl on Saint Cecilia Knows in association with Scott Fagans own lilfish. Album 1967 15 Songs. At 48 years distance, its hard to fathom why its a marvellous record, full of slightly psychedelic folk, Donovanish pop and stripped-down, brass-powered, redemptive soul. There are songs about dying love, failure, the emptiness of hedonism and the lure of isolation and Fagan the biological father of Magnetic Fields Stephin Merritt delivers them with humbling passion.
