There are moments of unparalleled delicateness such as on Nachtmusik, until the mood lifts into glitch-filled patterns of high-octane neon colour such as on closing track The Long Wait. Album 2012 9 Songs. His 2012 double EP TouristSleeper combines his previously released Tourist with the newer recordings of the Sleeper EP. More of a conceptual diptych than a twofer, the EPs play like conjoined chapters of a novel. The four songs of Tourist are breezy affairs rich with ambient field recordings. Hung Markets pulses lightly with organic electronica. The first moments feel like youre jetlagged in Bali as looped chimes subtly approximate the repetitive rhythms and tones of Indonesian gamelan music. Seams Tourist, Sleeper Review. If Tourist is Welch cribbing from influences, Sleeper is a little more distinct. The Glow throbs with more substance than preceding efforts, and while light on dynamics it makes for a solid segue into something of rumbling rudeness again, in a DJ set context. Potential has plenty of just that but doesnt quite burst into strobe-lit bloom while the busy Punch ducks and weaves like Rusties Zig-Zag with its low end exchanged for wordless vocals. Closer The Long Wait is a contemplative slice of contemporary electronica best suited to quiet reflection. Just realized the last track from 'TouristSleeper' was never uploaded to SoundCloud.
