Album
Amok is the third album by the Finnish metal band Sentenced. The album was released through Century Media Records in 1995. Though still mostly rooted in the death metal genre, this album takes the melodic death metal direction of 1993's North from Here a step further with elements of traditional heavy metal and doom metal, along with elements of the goth rock-inspired style that the band would take on with subsequent releases, following bassistvocalist Taneli Jarva's departure. It is also the last album with Taneli Jarva. It showed further departure from the band's early death metal stylings. The lyrics are a mixture of melancholy, mythology and suicidal themes. Country: Ukraine. Sentenced - Amok review: A classic in death metal, with a hint of rock & roll to make this album truly unique. I'm surprised that this album wasn't in the database, because it is a fantastic album by Sentenced before they started getting all Gothic. It's fair to say that this is the best album they ever made. Sentenced at the time: Miika Tenkula Guitar Sami Lopakka Guitar Taneli Jarva Bass guitar and vocals Vesa Ranta Drums. Let me get this straight, this isn't a 'brutal' death metal release in any way. Nor is it a melodic death metal album either, it comes more into the 'Death Rock' category, if that even exists. While North From Here was almost categorized as black metal, Amok is pure rock & roll. And looking at that change afterwards, it seems that a rockish style fits better with Taneli Jarva's voice and Miika Tenkula's riffs. In particular, the large guitar wall and amazing ambition don't fail even for a second during Amok, even when Jarva's songs Funeral Spring and Moon Magic seem to be a little frustrating for a moment
