Album

Vox Iberica Sequentias long-term project to record music from three of Spains most important musical sources begins with music from the so-called Codex Calixtinus, a 12th century manuscript containing liturgical chant and polyphony in honour of Saint James the Apostle, otherwise known as Santiago, whose relics have been venerated by pilgrims since the Middle Ages in the cathedral. at Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. For this recording, the eight mens voices of Sequentia join to record the complete polyphony found in this magnificent collection of sacred music, including some of the ea. Sequentia's recording is titled Sons of Thunder, an allusion to the Biblical tale of the recruitment of James the Disciple. The ensemble include eight men, under the direction of Benjamin Bagby, and most of the pieces were performed tutti. These were skilled choristers with 'classical' training. Their ensemble practices are extremely precise and their intonation is superb. Their cadential consonances are flawless. They use the sort of voices that can only be described as suave and gorgeous. They are tightly disciplined by the notation, to which they add nothing that. Songs in album Sequentia - Vox Iberica. CD1 - Codex Calixtinus - Sons Of Thunder - Music For St. James The Apostle 1993.
