Loma-and, conducting Warszawa, Bowie's longtime guitarist and musical director Carlos Alomar. it's safe to say these are the last songs by another artist that Shearwater will record or perform for quite a while we've got to make another album of our own, after all. But these shows were a highlight of our performing lives, and reverse-engineering these unusual and inspiring records on their 40th anniversary was a delight and a challenge for us. Lodger is the 13th studio album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. It was originally released in May 1979 by RCA Records. The third and final release of the Berlin Trilogy, following Low and Heroes both 1977, it was recorded in Switzerland and New York City with collaborator Brian Eno and producer Tony Visconti. Unlike Bowie's previous two albums, Lodger contained no instrumentals and a somewhat more pop-oriented style while experimenting with elements of world music and recording. What was it about Bowie's album Lodger specifically that made you want to cover it very well and are there any other albums you'd love to cover This is the Twentieth video of the series. Heres the deal: well play a different album each night in reverse chronological order: Lodger Heroes Low. Each evening will open with a short program of music by Brian Eno and Klaus Schulze that inspired the albums, performed live by members of the formidably talented Wordless Music Orchestra: Grey Mcmurray, Clarice Jensen, Timo Andres, Angel Deradoorian, Frank LoCrasto, and Greg Fox. As with our cover of Lodger, I wont be trying to impersonate Bowie which is impossible but we aim to present the music of these remarkable and groundbreaking albums as faithfully as we can-and with life, passion, and joy. Shearwater decided to begin with Lodger, the album they knew best and was easiest to play, which also meant the series would end with Lows loveliest and most confounding moments. They also decided to bring in some friends, including saxophonist Travis Laplante and Deerhoof shredder Ed Rodriguez. While Bowie had at least a dozen singers in his body, they split the songs into three, more or less: Meiburg, Lee, and Xiu Xius Jamie Stewart. It was a series of smart decisions for a strange locale. Lodger is the most accessible in the trilogy, but its hardly Muzak-especially its wildest moments Bowie never attempted to play live. Disc IDs. Cover Art 1. Additional details. Type: Album Live.
