The thing is, his sister would sing to him whenever he was afraid or insecure, and it was a calming influence on him. Steven Wilson lead vocals, mellotron, keyboards, guitars, bass guitar on The Holy Drinker Guthrie Govan lead guitar Nick Beggs bass guitar, Chapman Stick on The Holy Drinker , backing vocals Adam Holzman keyboards, hammond organ, piano, minimoog Marco Minnemann drums, percussion Theo Travis flute, saxophone, clarinet. Over the past decade, Steven Wilson's relationship with prog rock has grown increasingly intimate. He previewed a killer new band on the live album Get All You Deserve - woodwindmulti-instrumentalist Theo Travis, keyboardist Adam Holzman, session bass and stick player Nick Beggs, drummer Marco Minnemann, and guitarist Guthrie Govan - put a diverse, sophisticated face on Wilson's 21st century brand of the genre. This is still 'Steven Wilson doing Steven Wilson' because the album is really another expansion to his love for progressive rock, but his obsession with Camel's invigorating rock deliveries and King Crimson's ever shifting moods has never played a role this prominent in the past. As far as entertainment value goes, The Raven That Refused to Sing obviously emphasizes on elaborate technical work, but it manages to orchestrate them in a manner that is captivatingly euphonic. KerfuffleinaHussle 2. 5 Steven Wilson takes a stab at nostalgia, but The Raven That Refused to Sing ends up soundi. Just about every review thus far for Steven Wilson's The Raven That Refused To Sing has been praising the album as a progressive rock masterpiece as essential prog fare for 2013 and so on and on. While I do not disagree that this wonderful album deserves a spin by every true prog fan, I'm not sure I can call it a masterpiece. A VERY average album, and of course will not change my mind about Steven Wilson A forever average Joe in Prog World to me. But you cannot argue with one thing, Wilson is an amazing. He'll sell his fans an empty box and they'll buy with a big smile on their faces. Absolutely incredible album - definitely a favorite from Steven Wilson. And this pressing is equally incredible.
