Michigan styled Sufjan Stevens Presents. Greetings from Michigan, the Great Lake State on the cover is a concept album by American indie folk songwriter Sufjan Stevens, released on July 1, 2003 on Sounds Familyre, Asthmatic Kitty and Secretly Canadian in the US, and on Rough Trade in Europe. It is Stevens' third studio album and features songs referencing places, events, and persons related to the U. state of Michigan. The Michigan album full title is Sufjan Stevens Presents: Greeting From Michigan, The Great Lake State is an album that Sufjan Stevens had released through his Asthmatic Kitty record label and the entire album is about Michigan, the Great Lake state. Every song is named after something related to Michigan and the lyrics are related to Michigan as well. This was supposed to be the first album in the 50 States Project, however, it finished after two and Sufjan said he had no plans for anymore and it was just as a stunt. Sufjan produced, wrote, arranged, recorded and performed every song, Alan. Its title is a reference to the campaign adopted by the state in the 1980s and serves as the centerpiece as well as Stevens' attachment and amour for the state he is from. Musically, Stevens often plays his Jim O'Rourke and Stereolab cards, riffing along with complex polyphony in building loops and dynamics, but he also frequently imports lightly strummed guitars and stark banjo picking to break up the album and give it a rustic northern folk aesthetic. The first thing to know about Greetings from Michigan, the third album from Brooklyn-based singersongwriter Sufjan Stevens, is that. If Stevens can be at all faulted on Michigan, it's for erring on the side of indulgence, with the occasional track running too long. Oh God, Where Are You Now In Pickeral Lake Pigeon Marquette . This is the best Sufjan Stevens album in my opinion, for its pure blissful sound and subtle experimentation passes his others in quality. Color: Blue FAV TRACKS: all of them LEAST FAV: na. I picked an opportune moment to review Greetings from Michigan But don't worry, I won't be scolding Michigan for not voting for Bernie Sanders. Surprisingly, I actually haven't had much interest in politics as of late. I've been gripped with an enormous sadness lately that has felt insurmountable. I lost a family member last night and broke up with my partner recently as well, and all the while I've been simply trying to go to work and keep my head up, which has been a surprising. read more
