Tiny Cities is the second studio album by American indie folk act Sun Kil Moon, released November 1, 2005 on Caldo Verde Records. The album features the same lineup as the band's debut, Ghosts of the Great Highway 2003. The full-length album is composed of covers of songs by Modest Mouse, released on Kozelek's own label, Caldo Verde Records. Much like his ACDC tribute What's Next to the Moon, Kozelek. Tiny Cities is so aptly titled, a recording of motion, the passing of distances, and the sometimes too-close experience of intersection, connection, and disconnection that happens in both open and claustrophobic environments - check Trucker's Atlas for the rootless awareness of caged-in restlessness no matter how wide the terrain is to run and move. And Sun Kil Moon don't show as much range on Tiny Cities as they did on their debut, Ghost of the Great Highway. Their tasteful Americana is long on atmosphere but short on real dynamics: Most of these tracks sound more or less uniform, which is odd considering the variety of the Modest Mouse versions. Divorced from their original contexts, Brock's lyrics don't fit easily into Sun Kil Moon songs. Tiny Cities Made of Ashes suffers worst, trading the original's bizarre bass bounce and aggrieved alienation for a lackadaisical pace and chiming vocals.
